Maths with our XOs

Last week we were learning about arrays in Maths. My year one class had to create their own arrays, photograph their own creation, insert that photo into a write document and then comment on the array they made. It was interesting watching the students use creative ways to create their arrays -from going outside to find arrays in the playground -grids on ground ,bricks on wall, window formation in buildings. As well as positioning children into groups and using a grid formation to show what they had done. One boy arranged chairs into rows then decided that they would be viewed better from a birds eye view so climbed on table and took photo from this perspective. I am sure that these students fully understand what an array is now.
