Learning Support Teacher: Teaching Year 1 reading using technology

For several years I have supported Year 1 by teaching reading using a variety of computer programs, internet sites and various technological resources.

The children are highly motivated to learn using these resources and all strands of the Literacy Continuum can be covered.

Learning to read is fun!

Some programs used are Fitzroy Reading, Literactive reading, Starfall.com, Cbeebies, Between the Lions, Starwords (high frequency words), You Tube: Phonics ABC

Ezy Speak microphones are a great way for teachers and students to assess progress as well as practising oral reading. Year 1 found them easy to operate. They could easily take them to their classroom to play back for their teacher. I found this a very effective way to assess fluency, pronunciation and cvc blends, etc.

It’s so good to see the children burst through the door, eager to start learning because they enjoy the lessons so much.  NP
