CC21 and the NS5

Our involvement in this project is an initiative of the IT Mentor employed by the NS5 schools. The NS5 is a collaborative partnership involving five comprehensive public high schools in the North Shore Network: Chatswood, Killara, Ku-ring-gai Creative Arts, St Ives and Turramurra. We are using this project to further strengthen the collaborative ties that are forming between our five schools by working on collective programming designed to embed technology into the delivery of Australian Curriculum-ready programs in the four KLAs: English, HSIE (History component), Mathematics and Science. Each school will focus on one KLA and will store the programs in a cloud environment utilising tools such as Google Docs, providing a transparent and collective approach to programming across the five schools, thus drawing upon the collective expertise of relevant staff throughout the NS5.

Initially, we will generate interest in the project in order to identify willing participants. This will lead to the selection of a small group of staff who will be the central focus of the project. They will be offered incentives to be involved in the project including IT enhancements in their classroom and the supply of a mobile device (such as an ipad, tablet or similar) to generate ownership and engagement. These volunteers will become the creative force behind the desired cultural shift towards engaging 21st century learners, embedding technology and satisfying the requirements of the Australian Curriculum.

In the next week, our IT Mentor will be enlisting a small group of Year 11 Society and Culture students as ‘research assistants’ to begin surveying our school community.
